Vancouver plays an essential role in the global Bitcoin, crypto, and web3 ecosystem as the premier tech hub of western Canada. One of its most iconic venues is DCTRL, a space for builders, educators, investors, and decentralization enthusiasts.

Since its founding in 2013, DCTRL has been the birthplace of ideas, relationships, and companies that now operate at global scale. It has hosted hundreds of events and continues to serve as a hub for art, community, and cultural events of all stripes.

As a result of city re-zoning and rising real-estate pressure, the city has decided to demolish the building and DCTRL has received formal notice to vacate by March 31, 2026. Without intervention, Vancouver risks losing one of its longest-running institutions for decentralization, innovation, and technology.

The future of DCTRL is to become a permanent, purpose-built, multi-community hub in Vancouver. A place that brings the existing crypto and digital communities together and supports the people, innovation, and culture to put Vancouver firmly on the map as a global crypto hub.

In the following weeks, a full proposal will be released detailing the plan for realizing this vision. We invite members and anyone interested to join us for the AGM on Thursday, January 8th at 7pm to discuss next steps.

Vancouver helped shape crypto’s early history, and together we can ensure Vancouver will continue to shape its future.
